Digital Passport

In the coming weeks Year 4 and Year 5 in TX will be working towards getting their 'Digital Passports'.

Digital Passport will help the students appreciate the basics of digital safety, etiquette, and citizenship. Students will learn skills from online games and videos, while deepening their learning through collaborative offline activities.

Digital Passport consists of five parts: (1) Communication, (2) privacy, (3) cyber-bullying, (4) Search, and (5) Creative Credit.

Over the course of five lessons they will:

• learn why it’s important to avoid multitasking with a mobile phone. They will consider the benefits of focusing on one task at a time.
• evaluate examples of online messages. They will decide what information is appropriate to share, and when, and will be reminded that nothing is truly “private” or “erasable” online.
• make choices about what to do if they or their friends are cyber-bullied. 
• learn how to choose effective keywords for searching online. 
• remix media content to create a new creative piece. Along the way, they will give proper credit to the artists whose images and sound clips they use.

NIA - Network in Action Milepost 1 Assembly

On Monday the Year 5 members of the NIA (Network in Action) group led an assembly to help Year 1 and 2 become more aware of how to be safe online. They discussed ways to use the internet safely, such as be in a room with an adult, and how to keep themselves safe online by keeping their personal information private from other people.

The NIA members were clear and confident presenters and they were perfect role models for the younger students. Cyber Safety is a very important area to think about in the digital world that we live in and to was clear by the end of the assembly that all the Year 1 and 2 students had learned a few pointers to keep themselves safe when they use a digital device like an iPad or computer.
